Prim Pottery

While stitching and rug hooking hold a special place in my heart, another love since high school has been pottery. I haven't thrown on the wheel since my Senior year (gah! almost 20 years ago!), but have had fun with a few clay projects in the last couple of years.

I enjoy making Christmas gifts for my family and friends. This year I chose a project that made me more emotional than I thought I would be.

I never met my father's parents. They both passed many years before I was born (my dad was the youngest of 9). My mom said Grandma was always crocheting doilies and she had a bunch stashed away. I had seen a project that used doilies or lace impressed in clay. That was it - this year's project!

It worked. My Grandma, whom I never got the chance to meet, and I collaborated on a project. I was smitten with clay all over again. : )

Please let me know what you think. I have more projects in the works, and I would like to put them on etsy if there is interest.

Remember me?

I wouldn't blame if you did not as my last post was in August lol!  A lot has happened over the months and I just didn't feel like I had anything worthy to share. I lost one job which caused us to lose our home, then we moved into an apartment - which I absolutely love - and I got a new job, but then that company just closed their doors. Exciting, but not very, ya know? I haven't gotten to a rug hooking guild meeting since November and haven't really had the desire to create, but I know that for my mental well-being that I need to create. I have missed my blog friends and will be visiting your blogs soon....promise. I'm sure you have been up to all sorts of creative goodness. : )

Thanksgiving 1621

This was in a Create and Decorate Magazine, designed by Terry Loewen, and has been in my to-do pile for a while. Tomorrow I'll give it a wash with some coffee or walnut stain, and some wool and button details to fill out the frame I picked out.

More punchin'

Finished another lil one Saturday evening. This is a pattern by Shirley Hudson .  I have no plans for him so maybe just a frame.
I haven't decided if I will coffee stain it or not. What do you think?
The weather got me in the mood for autumn. :-)

Punchin'

I finished this little punched tulip tonight. I made it to fit on the top of a metal box. I'm not sure exactly how I'm going to finish the edges. Maybe some trim or rik-rak. I used three colors of floss for the background as I wanted a varigated look without the cost of hand-dyed floss, though I do love it so! I hope to get another punched piece started tomorrow....maybe some pumpkins. :-)  The cooler weather we've had the past few days is making me think autumn, my favorite time of the year.
Have a good weekend.

Stitching with a kitty.....

.....doesn't work so well! Good thing it has cooled off considerably and I can lock myself away in the craft room. It has been just too hot to go up there. We only have A/C in the living room right now. The little window fan was just blowing around steamy air. Some day, whole house A/C, some day.......

Off to punch! Enjoy your day. :-)

Asher the Cat

Remember the kitten I was bottle feeding? She is getting big! Her legs are so long, but she is on the thin side. She is starting to get so cuddly and sweet. For a while I didn't think she knew how to do anything but run around and bite, ha ha!
